Autumn Breeze is a breath of fresh air on the south edge of Eureka. The fine food inside belies the austere exterior. In fact the same sort of subtleties that make this structure more appealing as you approach and turn a simple interior into understated elegance are what give chef Richard Bloch's dishes the pizzazz to rise above their roots. Bloch offers many entrees that aren't real fancy, but his attention to detail lifts them to a new level. Coconut Beer Battered Shrimp might even be on the Shoney's menu from time to time, but Bloch's are nothing like what you'd find there. A crunchy, sweet coating clings lightly to shrimp that are plump, firm and succulent. Veal Saltimboca was wonderful - the veal tender, the filling warm and a bit gooey. Bloch's chocolate souffle is a signature dish. And it's clear why. The ala mode version includes layering in some vanilla ice cream. The hot, airy souffle and the ice cream marry wonderfully.
